From Spring Back into Winter
In addition to being chained to my computer the last couple of weeks, I have been getting a lot of cycling done. With dry trails and highs near 70, mountain biking was prime last week. Then a cold front rolled some snow in for skiing. It only about 10 degrees as I type this.
At one of the trailheads last week, I was talking with the ranger about trails and advocacy for trails. He was kind of enough to tell me about a rogue trail the rangers recently found and asked me for my opinion after riding.
I have to say it was one of the most sustainable fall line trails I have ever ridden. It was all on rock with great little ledges to drop off. Too bad each ledge was right after a tight turn. Or in the second photo, the trail is photo left of a great drop, but to get to it a rider would need to come to a complete stop to make the turn just uphill.

From the depths of office work
Winter time used to be the time to ski and do house renovations. This year is the winter of get the business dialed in for growth. Right now I am fortunate enough to be planning some expansion in the economic doldrums of 2008-2009.
I just got some work done on the truck. I have been fairly jealous of teenage girls or middle-aged moms with slogans on their butts, so I had it done to the truck.
The project season is coming together nicely. Grand Junction, Rapid City (maybe), Curt Gowdy are on the list to start the year. Those projects with get Singletrack Trails through September.
Winter has been mild in Fort Collins. I think it is time to go ride my bike.

Hitting the stride
With the machines working like crazy the last couple of days, Joey, Dave, and I are finally getting in a groove. Dave and Joey are running the excavators on the west side of M Hill. I have started an alignment on the east side. Looking at the weather the next few days, I am going to be lucky to be on the leeward side of the hill.
Here some shots from the last couple of days:
Dave and Joey building a wall.
Before and after of the trail I am building.
Not much daylight left.

Rapid City
I am currently working in Rapid City, SD for IMBA Trail Solutions. Dave Dessel of Trail Arts and I are here to run machines on the Cowboy Hill Project.
The goal of this project is to create about 12 miles of trail by early next spring. We have definitely been pushing the weather envelope on this project. Dave and Joey Klein were hotel bound as a wet and windy blizzard blew through Rapid City. I was "stuck" at home in Fort Collins in sunny weather.
We finally got firing today after more design and chainsaw work. Here are photos of the trail partially done and the machine train that we have going.

Ginny Trail work day
This past Saturday I worked with the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas and 30 volunteers to start the implementation of a plan for alternate option lines on the Ginny Trail that I created. The focus of the work was to create elevated wooden structures in an area that remains boggy after snows or rains. The second work location was an area that was for a fun double black feature. The Diamond Peaks Mountain Bike Patrol was nice enough to buy all of the volunteers and City staff lunch for the day.
Here are some photos of the day:
